Research Common @ RDC

The RDC Research Common is a place where faculty, staff, and students can get assistance with research and scholarly activities. Find information on conducting original research and on the supports available for research at RDC.

Our Office Hours Team

Anyone on our team can help you in the planning stages of your research project as you work to define your question, and all of us can help you figure out your next step if you're unsure of your question.

Katie Cupello is the Grant Administrator and a former contract instructor at RDC. She holds a Ph.D. in Art History (Roman) from Emory University and is a trained classicist. Katie can help with the identification of research funding opportunities, the navigation of grant application requirements, and with questions about proposal development.

Michelle Edwards Thomson is the chair of the Research Common, a librarian in the Library Information Common, and a member of the Research Ethics Board. She can help with literature searches, publishing and copyright questions, and designing an ethical research project.

About the Research Common @ RDC

Located in the Library, the RDC Research Common is a place where faculty, staff, and students can get assistance with research and scholarly activities. We can offer guidance with:

  • getting started on a research project
  • connecting with other researchers and/or the community for a project
  • designing an ethical research project
  • conducting literature searches
  • writing a research grant or proposal
  • understanding grant requirements (budget, course release, hiring, etc.)
  • presenting or publishing research

The Research Common is a collaborative effort, with involvement from the Library, the Centre for Teaching and Learning, Applied Research & Innovation, the Research Ethics Board, the Research and Scholarship Committee, the Recognition of Scholarly Activity Committee, and Strategic Planning and Analysis. Our planning group is made up of members from those areas and committees and also has student representation:
