Learning Skills and Strategies

If you need study skills help, please check out what RDC offers!

What We Do

Academic Support is available to help all Red Deer College students be more effective and efficient learners. Don’t rely on high school study skills. Use Academic Support and its resources to get you on the right path towards academic success at RDC!

Learning strategies are ways to help yourself understand, remember and apply the knowledge you are receiving in your courses. Small group instruction and individual appointments are available on a wide variety of topics, including:

  • Understanding your learning style

  • Study strategies (learn effective ways to study and improve concentration)

  • Time management (create and follow a schedule, plan for studying and assignments)

  • Note-taking and reading skills (take useful notes, learn how to make study notes and read textbooks effectively)

  • Test taking skills (learn strategies for different types of exams, minimize exam anxiety by learning how to plan and prepare for your exams)

One-to-One Sessions

RDC students may sign up for individual sessions with the Learning Skills Strategist, to develop and implement personalized strategies for better achieving academic goals.  Time is most effectively used if the student identifies a problem area to discuss.

For information on how to book an appointment, visit the Book an Appointment tab.

If you are an instructor and would like a workshop presented in your classroom, please contact the Learning Skills Strategist directly.  A variety of learning skills workshops can be designed to promote academic success in your classroom.  Please note that at least two weeks notice may be required to schedule an in-class workshop. Availability is dependent on the Learning Skills Strategist's office hours.
